You know ‘em, you love ‘em, so let’s talk about ‘em – the “girls”, tatas, chichis, bazingas, bosom, the bust, boobs, your breasts. We all have ‘em and hope that they fit perfectly in your wedding attire just so. But in order for them to fulfill that dream, we have to make sure that they are healthy. Since it is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, let's talk about how to do just that.

Spot the Signs & Symptoms

Now, we are sure you are well aware, no two breasts are the same. But here are some signs & symptoms to be on the lookout for:

  1. New lump in the breast or armpit.
  2. Thickening or swelling of part of the breast.
  3. Retracting nipple (turning inward).
  4. Redness, irritation, dimpling or flaking of breast and/or nipple skin.
  5. Nipple discharge other than breast milk, including blood.
  6. Sudden change in the size or the shape of the breast.
  7. Pain in any area of the breast or nipple.

If you notice any of these signs, make sure to visit with a healthcare provider. Sometimes, what seems alarming can be harmless, like a cyst or a weight change, but it’s important to get a professional's opinion.

Do Self-Exams

We’re dress experts, not doctors, but we want to give you the best tools for self-care. Check out the links below on how to perform a chest self-exam. It’s a quick, easy habit that could make a big difference. If you're unsure about anything, reach out to your healthcare provider for guidance.

Know Your Family History

Some cancers are genetic, so we encourage you to have a conversation about your family’s medical history if possible. If you don’t have access to that information, consider genetic testing, especially for the BRCA gene, which can indicate a higher risk. It’s all about staying informed and empowered!

Support the Cause

At Brilliant Bridal, we are not experts in cancer, only in dresses. But, as a woman-owned and operated business, we firmly believe in celebrating all bodies and are passionate about the well-being of all our brides and their loved ones. That’s why we proudly support Brides Against Breast Cancer, an incredible organization focused on early detection, education, and support for those affected by breast cancer – and encourage you to do the same.

Here’s how you can help:

  • Donate a Wedding Dress: Have a wedding gown in great condition? Donate it to BABC! Your dress will find a new life with another bride, and the proceeds will go directly to early detection programs and cancer research.
  • Give Financially: Every dollar counts when it comes to finding a cure and supporting patients. You can donate directly to help fund life-saving research.
  • Volunteer Your Time: Whether it’s lending a hand at an event or raising awareness in your community, your time and energy can make a lasting impact.

Remember to check your chest and stay healthy out there, everyone!
